Every ghost town is a bet that didn't pay off. Levey just shows the receipt more honestly than most. Stanley Victor Levey (December 22, 1914 – March 5, 1971) was an American journalist. He covered labor and business news for the New York Times, CBS News and Scripps-Howard Newspapers.
Franklin County County holds 4 documented ghost towns, including Drumheller, Martindale, McAdam — Levey keeps them company on the map.
The story of Levey
Washington's ghost towns are mill towns and mining camps in country so green the forest is already taking them back.
Stanley Victor Levey (December 22, 1914 – March 5, 1971) was an American journalist. He covered labor and business news for the New York Times, CBS News and Scripps-Howard Newspapers. His work landed him on the master list of Nixon political opponents. Levey was born into a Jewish family in Oneonta, New York, to Abe and Mildred (Benes) Levey, who were both born to Polish immigrant parents. His father was a clothing salesman. He earned his undergraduate and master's degrees at the University of Rochester.
What you'll find today
The on-the-ground condition of Levey is unverified — it's listed here with unknown status. That could mean standing buildings, or an empty field. Go prepared for either, and consider sharing what you find so the record improves.
Nobody has confirmed the access situation, so treat any visit as reconnaissance: verify land ownership first, and be ready to admire from the road.
Getting there
Here's the honest truth: access to Levey is unverified. We couldn't confirm whether the site sits on public land, private property, or something in between — so verify land ownership and local rules before visiting, and respect private property at all times.
Good to know
Ghost-town etiquette is simple: take only photographs. Removing artifacts is illegal on public lands and disrespectful everywhere else — and on federal land it can be a serious offense.
