Across the United States, 16 ghost towns are classified as flooded. Flooded ghost towns were sacrificed to reservoirs and dams. They surface — sometimes literally — during droughts, when streets and foundations reappear from beneath the waterline.

The largest concentrations are in Massachusetts (4), Georgia (4), Alabama (3), Arkansas (3). Well-known examples include Dana, Enfield, Flagstaff, Greenwich, Prescott.
