The story of Attalia
Washington's ghost towns are mill towns and mining camps in country so green the forest is already taking them back.
Attalia () is an extinct town in Walla Walla County, Washington, United States. The GNIS classifies it as a populated place. Attalia was located on the East shore of the Columbia River some 8 miles downriver from Burbank. A post office called Attalia was established in 1906, and remained in operation until 1952. According to tradition, the town was named after a place in Italy. The townsite was submerged in Lake Wallula upon completion of McNary Dam in 1953. Attalia was a stop on both the Northern Pacific Railway and the Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company in 1909.

Nobody has confirmed the access situation, so treat any visit as reconnaissance: verify land ownership first, and be ready to admire from the road.
Getting there
Here's the honest truth: access to Attalia is unverified. We couldn't confirm whether the site sits on public land, private property, or something in between — so verify land ownership and local rules before visiting, and respect private property at all times.
Good to know
Ghost-town etiquette is simple: take only photographs. Removing artifacts is illegal on public lands and disrespectful everywhere else — and on federal land it can be a serious offense.
