Some places earn their silence — and Weir is one of them. Samuel Edwin Weir (March 14, 1903 – May 15, 1991) was an American professional football player and coach for the Frankford Yellow Jackets of the National Football League (NFL).

Hooker County holds 6 documented ghost towns, including Donald, Dunwell, Eclipse — Weir keeps them company on the map.

The story of Weir

Nebraska's ghost towns are railroad and homestead towns, spaced every few miles along lines the trains don't run anymore.

Samuel Edwin Weir (March 14, 1903 – May 15, 1991) was an American professional football player and coach for the Frankford Yellow Jackets of the National Football League (NFL). He was the first Nebraska Cornhuskers player elected to the College Football Hall of Fame and is known as one of Nebraska's greatest athletes. In 2005, the Omaha World-Herald, as part of a series on the 100 Greatest Athletes of Nebraska, named Weir the 19th best athlete in the state's history.

What you'll find today

The on-the-ground condition of Weir is unverified — it's listed here with unknown status. That could mean standing buildings, or an empty field. Go prepared for either, and consider sharing what you find so the record improves.

Nobody has confirmed the access situation, so treat any visit as reconnaissance: verify land ownership first, and be ready to admire from the road.

Getting there

Here's the honest truth: access to Weir is unverified. We couldn't confirm whether the site sits on public land, private property, or something in between — so verify land ownership and local rules before visiting, and respect private property at all times.

Good to know

Ghost-town etiquette is simple: take only photographs. Removing artifacts is illegal on public lands and disrespectful everywhere else — and on federal land it can be a serious offense.
