Every ghost town is a bet that didn't pay off. Vincent just shows the receipt more honestly than most. William Davis Vincent (October 11, 1852 – February 28, 1922) was a U.S. representative from Kansas.
Osborne County holds 16 documented ghost towns, including Banks, Bristow, Cheyenne — Vincent keeps them company on the map.
The story of Vincent
Kansas ghost towns are what happens when the railroad changes its mind and the wheat stops paying.
William Davis Vincent (October 11, 1852 – February 28, 1922) was a U.S. representative from Kansas. Born near Dresden, Tennessee, Vincent moved with his parents to Riley County, Kansas, in 1858 and to Manhattan, Kansas, in 1864. He attended the public schools and the State agricultural college in Manhattan, Kansas. Vincent engaged in business in Manhattan 1872–1876. He moved to Clay Center, Kansas, in 1878 and engaged in mercantile pursuits. Vincent was elected as a member of the city council in 1880. He served as member of the State board of railroad commissioners in 1893 and 1894.
What you'll find today
The on-the-ground condition of Vincent is unverified — it's listed here with unknown status. That could mean standing buildings, or an empty field. Go prepared for either, and consider sharing what you find so the record improves.
Nobody has confirmed the access situation, so treat any visit as reconnaissance: verify land ownership first, and be ready to admire from the road.
Getting there
Here's the honest truth: access to Vincent is unverified. We couldn't confirm whether the site sits on public land, private property, or something in between — so verify land ownership and local rules before visiting, and respect private property at all times.
Good to know
Ghost-town etiquette is simple: take only photographs. Removing artifacts is illegal on public lands and disrespectful everywhere else — and on federal land it can be a serious offense.
