Metal mining had its own cycle: silver booms, lead-zinc revivals during the world wars, then the long fade as ore grades fell. Sage Creek rode some version of that curve in Rich County County. The stone and timber left behind are tougher than the economics were — which is why the ruins outlasted the reasons.
