The Glenn Pool and Osage strikes of the early 1900s created instant boomtowns — wooden derricks as far as the eye could see, mud streets, fortunes made between breakfast and supper. Then the Dust Bowl of the 1930s did the opposite: stripped the topsoil off the farms, blackened the sky at noon, and sent a generation west on Route 66. Towns like Oktaha got caught between those two storms — built by one kind of boom, broken by another kind of bust, and left with not much in between.
